About Us

Who We Are

We are a parent committee run pre-school with an outstanding reputation for providing childcare from 2.5 to 5 years old.  The setting works together in a highly committed team to provide enormous benefits to children. The quality of teaching is inspirational and children are seen to be highly motivated to learn. The setting ensures children become highly confident and self assured with examples of excellent independent skills. The setting works hard on ensuring school readiness and children are seen to make excellent progress in their learning and development. (Ofsted 2015)

Welfare

Specialist skills/Training
Support for heath & well-being

We use visual aids for children who may have speech and language delays to ensure they can express their needs to practitioners.
We support all children to use makaton throughout the setting.

For key times of day such as needing the toilet, feeling hungry or expressing emotion practitioners will emphasise the signs the children may need.

We encourage all children to express and share their emotions within a safe environment.

We talk openly to children about their feelings and emotions to ensure they understand them. We explain negative feelings and emotions are natural and should be expressed but in the correct way.

All practitioners within the setting model and support self-regulation skills to enable all children to cope with any emotions they experience.

Plymouth Argyle Football Coach

Each week we are very lucky to have Martin, a football coach from Plymouth Argyle visit pre-school to provide a structured and extremely fun programme of age appropriate physical development activities.

Each week one child is named ‘Sports Person of the Week’, they’re awarded with a medal to keep for the week and have their photo taken with the coach.

We ask that all children who attend the session wear appropriate footwear.

What We Do

Learning and Development
Identifying & Supporting Children's needs
Supporting children transferring to school

We have excellent links with local schools, notably to Pensilva School where the staff work closely together ensuring a smooth transition into primary school.

We encourage children to try school meals at pre-school which are supplied by primary school to help prepare children for this at primary school.

We use the main school hall for gym activities which helps familiarise themselves with the school.

Throughout the Summer term children have transition days into primary school

Teachers in reception class of all of the primary schools children will be attending are invited into pre-school to meet children and for the children to become familiar with them
