We would ask you to keep your child at home if they are unwell for us to limit cross infection. We follow the Health Protection Agency guidelines and that is, if your child has had sickness or diarrhoea, they should be kept at home for at least 48 hours after the last attack. This is in line with Pre-School policy. We would also ask parents/carers to inform us immediately if you suspect your child has chicken pox or any other fever or rash-like symptoms. This is so that we can inform other parents/carers. Below is a table for Pre-school policies on common illnesses:
Condition | Policy |
Sickness and Diarrhoea | 48 hours after the last episode of diarrhoea and vomiting. |
Chicken Pox | Until all the vesicles have crusted over. |
Conjunctivitis | Keep your child off Pre-School while they are feeling unwell. |
Head Lice | We would prefer a child to be treated before they attend Pre-school. If head lice are spotted during a session a member of staff will inform the parent/carer. |
Impetigo | Until lesions are crusted and healed or 48 -hours after commencing antibiotic treatment. |
Hand, Foot and Mouth | Keep your child off Pre-School while they are feeling unwell. |
Coronavirus (COVID-19) | Please see up to date Pre-School policy and the latest government guidance. |
In the event of your child being ill or having an accident at Pre-School, we will telephone parents or named contacts. When a child becomes seriously ill or injured, an ambulance will be called immediately and a parent or named contact informed. A member of the Pre-School will accompany the child to hospital in an ambulance and remain with the child until a parent or responsible person arrives.
Medication will only be administered if a consent form has been signed by a parent or carer following our administration of medicine policy.
